Dr. Teodulo M. Topacio is recognized for his significant scientific contributions to the studies and improvement of animal production and animal health in the country. His studies on leptospirosis showed the presence of three strains of the pathogen, the transmission of the disease from pigs to humans which enabled appropriate treatment for both pigs and humans and that the disease was an occupational hazard to workers. His other researches on animal diseases covered brucellosis, fasciolosis, distemper and tumors of dogs.
