In recognition of his outstanding accomplishments in the study of the nature of schistosome granuloma and its role in hepatosplenic disease; the epidemiology and control of hepatitis B and all known viral hepatitides in the Philippines; and the pathophysiology, clinical behavior and treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma in Filipinos.
